Neil Ridley, 37, is one of the UK’s new breed of passionate whisky writers and consultants to the drinks business. Since his early 20’s, Neil has been fascinated by the complexity of whisky and for the past five years has been writing regularly about the subject for a wide range of drinks and lifestyle publications such as Whisky Magazine, Square Meal, Imbibe and The Spirits Business. He has also contributed whisky features to a number of international daily and luxury publications including The Evening Standard, City AM, Aston Martin, Bentley and Sunseeker International. Neil is also co-founder of the highly regarded whisky website Caskstrength, which now gets in excess of 70,000 visitors a month.
Neil has appeared on several major primetime UK television shows and radio programmes as a whisky commentator, as well as a number of international radio stations (including The US, China and India) and is also on the judging panel for the World Whisky Awards, and chairman of Spirits Business’ Whisky Masters award series.
Over the past five years, Neil has contributed chapters to three best-selling whisky books, including regular chapters in the annual Malt Whisky Yearbook as well as The History Of Cutty Sark. He has also co-authored a brand new book about whisky -‘Let Me Tell You About Whisky’ published in March 2013.
In 2009, with his colleague Joel Harrison, Neil formed Caskstrength Creative, providing consultancy advice to the whisky industry, as well as hosting over 300 tastings spanning the globe, from Eastern Europe, The US and Japan.
