Barry Lawrence


Barry has been involved in every aspect of wine all his life. He Began his wine career at the German Wein Academy in Klosterebberbach, Germany in 1977, then went on to home winemaking where he won the sweepstakes award for best White Wine at Calif. State fair in 1983. In 1985 he got the crazy idea of creating a commercial winery and Eagle Ridge winery was born.  He's been a vineyardist since 1984 and established the first Geneve Double curtain trellising system in Sonoma  county. He was involved in wine sales on several levels - wholesaler, retailer, importer. He's been a wine educator at Santa Rosa Jr. College and specialized wine schools. He's was a California and National Board Member of the Society of Wine Educators, and currently is a Tastevin member of the Dionysian International Wine Society. And he is a published author having written for Wines and Vines, Redwood Rancher, Calif. Wine country Journal and has written a book about actor River Phoenix. He was one of the first to pass the judges' exam for both Intervin and the California State Fair in 1985, and  has been a judge for the California State Fair since 1988 and many other wine competitions not only held around Calif, but also Canada, London England for the IWSC since 1988 and Pennsylvania and New Jersey state competitions.

Away from wine Barry is a commercial pilot and  instrument flight instructor both air and sea.
