Being half-French, food and wine always played a central part in Alex’s upbringing; especially at the regular family get-togethers! So it seemed a natural progression to take this love of food and wine and turn it into a career.
Alex’s first foray into the industry was in 2003 when he became manager of the Coach and Horses, Clerkenwell. Under his stewardship, the pub won Time-out’s Gastro Pub of the Year (2004). Alex has since then passed his WSET diploma and been the tour supervisor at Vinopolis. Since Vinopolis, Alex has been working at Harrods in a number of capacities, first as Business Development Associate (based in the buying office) and most recently with the redevelopment of the Wine Shop, as the Wine Events Co-ordinator where he has rediscovered his passion for leading wine tastings!
Alex has also over the developed his own website, www.alexredfern.com, which features a different wine, spirit and cocktail each month. Alex’s personal interests currently lie in the resurgence of Sherry, wines from Savoie, cocktails and spirits: in particular rum. |
