Almost opaque, purple-ruby in colour. Black cherry with aromatic, violet lift, toasty oak accents on the nose. Rich palate showing sweet summer-pudding fruits, good freshness and polished texture. Concentrated, harmonious, complex and a long finish.
No hurry to drink. Gorgeous.
THE CARMENÈRE TROPHY
SANTA CAROLINA RESERVA DE FAMILIA CARMENÈRE 2014 SANTA CAROLINA
CHILE
This wine from 2014 has melded over the past three years into a fine example of Carmenère, with density yet elegance. Aromatic and herbal, with rosemary, lavender and tomato leaf hints. The palate exhibits ripe wild
sloes and savoury spice.
Well structured and complex
right through to the
finish – delicious.
THE MALBEC TROPHY
VINITERRA SINGLE VINEYARD MALBEC 2015
VINITERRA SA
ARGENTINA
Almost solid black with a violet rim. The nose is exuberant, combining fruit, herbs and sweet spices and a glimpse of new oak. Up- front on the palate, packed with ripe raspberry and wild berries, well held by firm structure and fine-grained
tannins. It’s warm, dry and elegant. While enjoyable now, there’s some way to go to yield its full potential.
THE ABRAHAM PEROLD TROPHY FOR PINOTAGE, SPONSORED BY THE PINOTAGE ASSOCIATION KANONKOP BLACK LABEL PINOTAGE 2013
KANONKOP WINE ESTATE
SOUTH AFRICA
Dense, purple ruby, with an enticing perfumed nose packed with summer fruit compote and flowers. Elegant palate with fine, youthful tannins, silky body and an opulent texture. Finish is
balanced, long and generous. Drinking wonderfully now, but set for a long life thanks to firm structure and acidity.
