John began judging for international rum competitions in 2010 with the Ministry of Rum Festival in San Francisco and has since judged for many rum and spirit competitions and events around the world.
In 2011, John spent time behind the bar at The Tiki Bar and Kitsch Inn in Glasgow. While there, he also started the Glasgow Rum Club, which met monthly to help spread the knowledge of rum and connect bartenders and the rum curious with distillers, producers, and educators. Glasgow Rum Club continues to meet today.
In 2013, John co-founded Rum Symposium, a London based organization of rum experts and aficionados dedicated to the support and promotion of the rum industry. In 2016, he co-founded Rum Symposium Copenhagen and, in 2018, Rum Symposium Amsterdam.
John's desire to learn and experience all of what is involved in bringing cane to glass has taken him to rum education programs, events, distilleries, and rum and sugar production operations across the Caribbean and beyond.
Rum has been John's spirit of passion for many years and he has amassed a respectable collection along the way for reference -- and because you never know when you will need the right one for a special occasion!
