Kristina Beuthner

Speciality Wines

Kristina Beuthner, principal of the Cape Wine Academy, found her passion for the wine world in a glass of German Sekt, which inspired her to open an import and distribution company in Colombia. Some years later, in South Africa, she began with the Cape Wine Academy courses. She was a consultant, sales and office administrator, and a specialised client manager for New World Wines in Johannesburg until 2009, when the company was sold.

Beuthner established contacts among winemakers through regular visits and participation in trade shows, and completed her Cape Wine Master in 2010, writing her dissertation on “The future of Riesling in SA and what we can learn from the recent improvements in Germany (example the Rheingau)”.

She has lived in France, Germany and Colombia, has travelled extensively visiting the wine lands of the world, including Bordeaux, Rioja and many German wine regions, always in pursuit of "typicity" from the area.

Beuthner is a member of the wine-clubs SASWT and Wild Yeasts, and often entertains and consults to the industry, corporations and institutions. She is also a regular lecturer for the Diploma course at the Cape Wine Academy, and has judged at the prestigious IWSC in London, the UK and South Africa.
