Consulting Master Distiller and Whiskymaker
Lora Hemy is a consulting Master Distiller and Whiskymaker. Lora has spent 25 years working across sensory disciplines including visual art and sound, and the last 13 working with spirits both operationally and technically. This cross-functional background informs her unique approach to spirits creation combining creative and scientific thinking from diverse spheres of influence. Lora specialises in the design, build, commissioning and management of distilleries, with experience across multiple markets for a diverse range of organisations including those at craft scale, Halewood, Atom Brands and Diageo. Most recently Lora was Head Distiller for Diageo's Irish Whiskey operations in Dublin for over seven years, having led and built the operational commissioning team for the Roe and Co. Distillery, designing and shaping the house spirit styles and carrying innovation and whisky creation responsibilities for the brand. Lora represented Diageo at the Irish Whiskey Association Council during her tenure, combining expertise in global spirits regulation with industry advocacy. With additional specialisms in new make spirit character development, wood innovation and strategy, new product development and liquid quality, Lora is internationally known for her approaches to liquid architecture and innovation for both whisky and gin. Lora is currently consulting internationally in projects ranging from distillery commissioning to olfactory design. Lora currently serves on the Teagasc Centre for Brewing and Distilling Technical Committee in Ireland and has an MSc in Brewing and Distilling from the ICBD at Heriot-Watt University. Outside spirits Lora has a deep interest in perfume and is currently studying for a Master in Fragrance Formulation.
