The event was the first of its kind for the IWSC Foundation which was created back in 2018 to advance the causes that are key to the growth and long-term health of the wine and spirit industry globally. This includes the advancement of education which the purpose of the Back To School tasting.

Over 150 wines and 130 spirits were open to taste and the event also provided a number of blind tasting challenges including a mystery flight of brown spirits and white spirits. For wine, the blind tastings included a sparkling wine style and region challenge plus in collaboration with Cider Is Wine, a blind tasting designed to challenge students to awareness of what was an ice wine versus what was a cider.
