Bubbles flourish in the 2015 IWSC French and Italian results

To celebrate the start of Vinexpo on Sunday 14th June, the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) has today released the 2015 medal results for France and Italy from this year’s competition.

France regained its position at the top of the Northern Hemisphere medal table after losing out to Italy in 2014, with an amazing 802 medals awarded including 15 coveted Gold Outstanding medals and 20 Gold medals. As categories, Champagne and Prosecco picked up 256 and 84 medals respectively including 11 Gold medals for Champagne.

Today also sees the announcement of the first regional product trophies for 2015. After the completion of the Northern Hemisphere judging, the very best of each category was reviewed again by judges to decide upon the prestigious product trophy awards. Winners included the 1966 Leacock’s Bual winning the Madeira Trophy and La Riva Dei Frati Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Cartizze 2014 winning the Prosecco Trophy.

The supermarkets once again wowed judges with the quality of their products, Sainsbury’s attained the judges’ top award, a Gold Outstanding medal for their Taste the Difference Pouilly-Fuisse 2014 (£12) but where the majority of supermarkets excelled was with affordable bubbles.
