New wine categories

The most innovative awards in the industry

The IWSC is the most innovative awards in the industry, consistently pioneering new categories that are emerging onto the drinks scene

Reflecting increasing demand amongst consumers, we have seen a growing number of Champagne and sparkling wine entries as well as the number of rosé entries. New for 2022, we are putting together specialised panels to judge these categories.

South African Awards 2022

South Africa has long played a vital role within the IWSC, with entries often dominating our New World awards. In celebration of South Africa and our new President, the IWSC is excited to announce its plans to take its rigorous wine judging competition to South Africa. We will be taking five industry experts and established judges to join forces with local wine judges.

  • South African still red and white wines must be entered before 26 May.
  • Bottles* must ONLY be sent on weekdays between 23 May and 2 June.
  • Judging will take place in Paarl between 7 and 9 June.
  • The results will be announced on 15 June.

View our South African entry pack for further details including where to send samples.

*We will require 2 x bottles per entry. If your wine is awarded a gold medal we will request an additional 2 x bottles to be sent to the UK for our trophy tasting.

Rosé Awards 2022

For the first time in IWSC history we have created a new category dedicated solely to rosé still wines.

With rosé entries into the IWSC growing year-on-year, we will be assembling panels of expert judges to assess worldwide styles of rosé.

Our judges will be overseen by Wine Judging Committee member, and rosé expert, Dirceu Vianna Junior MW. Junior has over two decades of experience in judging, buying and involvement in the production of rosé wines. With projects in multiple markets, he has a global overview of this category in terms of production, style diversity, distribution channels and consumer preference.
